Post #102: Tomer's Trails: Rafting Browns Canyon

It's been years since I whitewater rafted in Colorado, and i've always wanted to raft Brown's Canyon.  Brown's is located just outside Buena Vista, CO about 2.5 hours from Denver.  I went with American Adventure Expeditions who operate in Buena Vista & Canyon City.

Post #100: Tomer's Trails: Why People Climb

This is one of my very favorite stories so far. It takes a deep dive into the Heart of Darkness. The age-old question of why people climb has piqued my interest for years. Why do people leave loved ones and risk everything for 15 minutes on a tiny summit? You'll hear from mountaineers, my friends, and world-class climbers like Ed Viesturs, Alan Arnette, Dr. Jon Kedrowski, Sean Swarner, Paul Perea, Noah McKelvin, and others.

Post #99: Tomer's Trails: Long's Peak Climb for Alzheimer's

I wanted to do this story for a long time. I've known Alan Arnette for years and admired his dedication to raising awareness and to finding a cure for Alzheimer's. Alan has dedicated his life to this end after losing his mother to Alzheimer's. I was joined by Jon Kedrowski and Ryan Kushner for this climb up to where it all started for Alan Arnette 20 years ago -- on Long's Peak.

Post #98: Tomer's Trails: The Citadel

I've been climbing the Citadel for years but only recently had the chance to ski it from the West Summit.  The Citadel has two summits, a West and East Summit with the West being slightly higher at 13,294ft.  The Citadel is still not listed on most maps.
Had a chance to climb and ski it with great friend Jon Kedrowski.  Here's the video:

Post #97: Tomer's Trails: Capitol Peak

Not every climb or ski goes as planned.  In our case, we were forced to adjust our sails on Capitol Peak.  Jon Kedrowski and I skied into the West Snowmass basin to meet up with Alan Arnette and Ryan Kushner.  As we approached our camping spot it was like someone flipped a switch and the wind started to roar.  The wind was so strong it covered their tracks and we were forced back into the trees to setup camp.  The next morning we set out for K2 and the summit of Capitol Peak.

Post #96: Tomer's Trails: Little Bear Peak

It has become a March tradition to climb Little Bear Peak in the Sangre De Cristos.  We like doing the peak as a snow climb to avoid rockfall.  To me, the climb is about spending time with friends on a spectacular peak.

Post #95: Tomer's Trails: Sean Swarner

Imagine if doctors gave you 14 days to live.  What would you do?  Who would you call?  Would you live like you're dying?  All questions that friend and Colorado mountaineer Sean Swarner tackled head-on.
The next time you wake up on the wrong side of the bed think of Sean.  See you on the Summit!

Post #94: Skiing Down Quandary Peak

Avalanche Danger is as high as it's ever been in Colorado.  The size of avalanches hit the tipping point after 12 feet of snow in 14 days and 100mph winds.  Right now, most avalanches in CO are unsurvivable...no matter what equipment or gizmos you have with you.  I felt like Quandary Peak would be a smart option -- knowing it like the back of my hand.  The slope angle is relatively low making it a safer option.

Post #93: Tomer's Trails: Golden Gate Canyon State Park

You can find solitude in the winter within an hours drive of Denver.  We made two trips to Golden Gate Canyon State park to snowshoe -- the park is incredibly big with over 12,000 acres of pristine wilderness.

Here's my story:

Post #92: Tomer's Trails: Monarch Cat-Skiing

I've wanted to cat-ski at Monarch for years.  The good folks at Monarch rolled out the red carpet and we had an outstanding trip.
Leanne and I invited Jon Kedrowski and Tara Dactyl to join us.  Station photographer Kolin Lawler also went to help shoot it.
Monarch sits right on the Continental Divide in Chaffee County.  The views are excellent - right into the heart of the San Juans.

Check out Tomer Weather Solutions: www.tomerweathersolutions.com

I often provide weather forecasts for mountain climbers and expeditions around the world.  I'm a mountain climber myself so I understand what Teams need to succeed on the mountain.  My goal is to get everyone to the summit safely in the best weather windows.

I've forecasted for over 50 mountains around the world.  Past jobs include Mount Everest, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II, Nanga Parbat, Denali, Aconcagua, Pico De Orizaba, Rainier, California 14ers, and all of Colorado's 14ers.

My forecasts are said to be more accurate and reliable than Meteotest and others.
"We stacked your forecasts up against MeteoTest everyday, and yours were always more accurate, more reliable." - Dr. Jon Kedrowski, Professional Mountaineer, Everest Summiteer

My philosophy is to cultivate success on the mountain. I can provide up to 4 weather updates per day along with 24/7 expedition support. Every forecast is scrutinized and only the best data is used. I send Teams easy to understand graphs of max summit & mid-mountain winds, moisture and snowfall. www.tomerweathersolutions.com

Post #89: Tomer's Trails: Vail Pass Backcountry Skiing & Avalanche Safety

Met up with JC Norling and Jon Kedrowski for some backcountry skiing.  We skinned up to Uneva Peak and chatted about avalanche conditions along the way, including slope angle, types of snow, and even did a couple tap/tilt tests by digging a snow pit.  JC teaches avalanche safety courses at Colorado Mountain College.  Think of the the snowpack like a game of Jenga....take a look:
